TSAMTO, February 28. The lead 97-meter multi-purpose patrol ship MRRV (Multi-Role Response Vessels), built by Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co. for the Philippine Coast Guard, arrived at the port of Manila on February 26.
The ship with the tail number MRRV-9701 left the Shimonoseki Shipyard in Shimonoseki (Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan) on February 21. It is assumed that the ship will be adopted by the Philippine Coast Guard under the name "Teresa Magbanua" (Teresa Magbanua).
As reported by TSAMTO, the acquisition of two MRRV multi-purpose patrol ships is carried out as part of the second stage of the Maritime Safety Capability Improvement Project (MSCIP Phase 2), agreed by the Governments of the Philippines and Japan in October 2016.
The delivery is mainly funded by the Japanese ODA Development Assistance Program (official development assistance). The loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency is 16.455 billion yen.
The contract for the design, construction and delivery of two 97-meter MRRV ships with a total cost of 14.55 billion rubles. The yen was signed by the Philippine Ministry of Transportation with Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. on December 27, 2019 and entered into force on May 8, 2020. Construction of the MRRV according to the adapted design of the Kunigami-class ship of the Japanese Coast Guard began in December 2020.
The launch of the lead ship of the series took place on July 26, 2021, the second - on November 18, 2021. It is expected that the second ship, (MRRV-9702) Melchora Aquino, will be delivered to the customer by May 2022.
