Hong Kong. February 28. INTERFAX - North Korea said on Monday it had conducted an "important test" to develop a "reconnaissance satellite," KCNA reported.
"The DPRK State Administration for Space Exploration and the National Defense Academy conducted important tests according to the operational plan for the development of a reconnaissance satellite," the KCNA said in a statement.
It is noted that during the test, "the characteristics and accuracy of the high-definition photography system, data transmission system and orientation control devices were confirmed."
North Korea's state media published photos of the Korean Peninsula from space, which were apparently taken by a camera mounted on a rocket launched on Sunday.
Earlier, the Armed Forces of South Korea said that the North fired a ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan on Sunday morning.
According to the military, the missile launched from the Sunan area in Pyongyang flew about 300 km at a maximum altitude of 620 km.
In January alone, the North conducted seven missile tests, including launches of a hypersonic missile and a medium-range ballistic missile.
