Dmitry Rogozin said that the ISS will be able to work in orbit no longer than 2028
Roscosmos CEO Dmitry Rogozin, in an interview with the Russian Cosmos magazine, outlined the new service life of the International Space Station (ISS).
"I think the ISS will be able to work in orbit until 2028, no longer. However, I repeat, we will make a decision on the terms of operation of the Russian segment based primarily on technical limitations. Accordingly, we need to focus on the creation and launch of the first modules of the new station for this period," the head said.
According to him, for some time the ISS and the planned Russian Orbital Service Station (ROSS) will be operated in parallel. "The final decision on ROSS, with which we associate the future of Russian manned cosmonautics, including as a transshipment point on the way to the Moon, will be made after the completion of the preliminary design of the station," the manager said.
In November 2021, the executive director of the Roscosmos State Corporation for Advanced Programs and Science, Alexander Bloshenko, announced that the preliminary design of ROSS will begin in 2022.
In April, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov said that Russia could withdraw from the ISS project by 2025 and begin work on ROSS.
