MOSCOW, February 26. /tass/. Soyuz-2 launch vehicles will cease to be launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome after the completion of the operation of the International Space Station. This was announced by the Director General of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin in an interview with the magazine "Russian Space".
"Despite the fact that Soyuz-2 will stop flying from Baikonur after the end of the ISS project, thanks to the Baiterek project, the cosmodrome will continue to live and work. And with it - the city of the same name," he said.
Rogozin also noted that since the Soyuz launch at the Vostochny cosmodrome today is not adapted for the launch of manned Soyuz spacecraft, the question of redundancy arises. But even with the creation of infrastructure for astronauts on the East and the preparation of the spacecraft, there remains a problem in the launch route: when the Soyuz spacecraft is launched from the East into the ISS orbit, the lander will fall into the Pacific Ocean in case of an accident.
"There is only one way out: the creation of a promising transport system "Angara-A5M" - "Eagle". Due to the possibility of self-launching into a low orbit, the new ship is much more viable than the Soyuz during emergency landing. And, of course, it is urgently necessary to start restoring the Gagarin launch. I hope the governments of Russia and Kazakhstan will make such a decision soon," the head of Roscosmos said.
