Washington. February 23. INTERFAX/AFP-BNS - The United States will transfer 800 troops from Italy to the Baltic countries to strengthen NATO's eastern flank, the Pentagon said after US President Joe Biden's statement on Tuesday about strengthening the military presence in the region.
According to the US military department, eight F-35 fighter planes from Germany will be transferred "to a number of areas of operations on the eastern flank of NATO." 20 AH-64 combat helicopters will be transferred from Germany to the Baltic countries, another 12 will be transferred from Greece to Poland.
There are now more than 90,000 US military personnel in Europe on a permanent or temporary basis.
