Russia will not allow people to die and suffer for the sake of the ambitions of the West. This opinion was expressed by the chairman of the Presidium of the All-Russian organization "Officers of Russia", Hero of Russia, Major General Sergei Lipovoy in an interview with a correspondent of Rossiyskaya Gazeta. This is how he commented on the recognition of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics by the Russian Federation.
"We are present, I will not be afraid of this word, at a historical moment. This is how history is made, not only of our country, but of the whole world. The decision taken by Russian President Vladimir Putin to recognize the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics was the only correct one in the current situation. And we, the All-Russian organization "Officers of Russia", are entirely in solidarity with him.
Relations with Ukraine have strained to the limit. The West made every effort to start a "small victorious war" on the lands of Donetsk and Lugansk, as it was in 2014 and 2015. Then the AFU forces had to retreat from the recalcitrant regions. Now overflowing with weapons and egged on by the West, Ukraine has decided to take revenge.
We waited until the last. Russia is not the United States, we do not interfere in the internal affairs of neighboring countries. The Russian authorities have made every effort to peacefully resolve this issue. But we were not heard, our words were not taken seriously. The West did not need peace in Ukraine. And we had to take responsibility for the lives of civilians of the DPR and LPR, for their peace and security. Russia will not allow people to die and suffer for the sake of NATO's ambitions.
This was already the case in August 2008, in the conflict with Georgia. History tends to repeat itself for those who have not learned its lessons. We know the consequences. The West is already writhing in impotent anger at Russia's act. But we don't need a war. We need peace, preferably all over the world. And certainly close to our borders. And we will do everything to preserve it."
