Washington. February 22. INTERFAX - The US Permanent Representative to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said that neither the US nor its allies intend to provide Ukraine with nuclear weapons.
"He (Russian President Vladimir Putin - IF) claimed that Ukraine is trying to get nuclear weapons from the West. Ukraine is one of the four countries in the world that voluntarily renounced nuclear weapons. Neither the United States nor our allies have any intention of providing nuclear weapons to Ukraine, and Ukraine does not want this," Thomas-Greenfield said, speaking at a meeting of the UN Security Council.
According to her, Russia's attack on Ukraine was not provoked.
"This is an attack on Ukraine's status as a member of the UN, it contradicts international law and the basic principles of the United Nations," she said. From her point of view, Russia's decisions create "a pretext for further invasion of Ukraine."
"Today, President Putin tore up the Minsk agreements in the spring," Thomas-Greenfield said.
The US Permanent Representative to the UN noted that today the US president signed a decree on sanctions against the DPR and LPR, and tomorrow the US will take measures to respond to Russia's decision on the DPR and LPR.
