London. February 20. INTERFAX - British Prime Minister Boris Johnson believes that the current situation around Ukraine could result in the largest after the Second World War in Europe.
"The plan that we see provides for something that could become the largest war in Europe since 1945 only in terms of scale," he said in an interview with the BBC television and radio corporation.
"We need to look not just at the invasion from the east through the Donbass, but, according to the intelligence that we see, it is coming from the north, from Belarus," Johnson explained.
The Prime Minister added: "I think that many people should understand what a huge price this can entail in terms of human lives, and not only Ukrainians, but also Russians."
For her part, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss expressed the opinion that Russia's plans include the restoration of the borders of the former Soviet Union.
"We have to stop the plans of the President of Russia, because he will not stop in Ukraine," she said in an interview with the Mail on Sunday.
Truss noted: "He has made it clear that his ambitions will not just lead to him taking control of Ukraine, he wants to turn back the clock to the mid-1990s or even earlier."
According to her, "the Baltic states are in danger... and the western Balkans, too."
"Putin has publicly stated that he wants to create a Great Russia, wants to return to the situation that was before, when Russia controlled vast territories of Eastern Europe. That is why it is so important that we and our allies stand up to Putin," the minister said.
