Military Watch: Dagger complexes in Syria may close the Mediterranean Sea to NATO
Russian hypersonic missile systems X-47M2 "Dagger", recently transferred to Syria, can close the Mediterranean Sea for NATO. Thus, the American magazine Military Watch assessed the appearance of Tu-22M3 bombers and MiG-31K fighters at the Syrian Khmeimim airbase.
"The X-47M2 missile is one of the most combat-ready tactical missiles in the world with unsurpassed flight characteristics, including a speed of Mach 10 numbers and very high maneuverability. It is believed that this missile is almost impossible to intercept, it can hit both ground targets and warships with high accuracy, and its range of destruction is 2000 kilometers," the publication says.
It is noted that this weapon can be used to block access to the Mediterranean by Western warships and strike key military positions in most of Europe. The publication is confident that currently none of the NATO countries has an explicit equivalent of the Russian X-47M2 "Dagger".
In February, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the transfer of MiG-31K fighters with hypersonic missiles X-47M2 "Dagger" and long-range Tu-22M3 bombers with supersonic cruise anti-ship missiles X-22 to the Khmeimim airbase in Syria to participate in exercises of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea.
