TSAMTO, February 17. The Bangladesh Ground Forces received a new batch of 15 M1224 MaxxPro armored vehicles of the MRAP class as part of the American Surplus Military Equipment (EDA) program.
As reported by Armyrecognition.com, the equipment is delivered in three versions: 14 ambulances, 4 armored personnel carriers and 1 armored repair and evacuation vehicle.
The new batch will complement the 90 MaxxPro armored vehicles that are already in operation in Bangladesh. In the future, the United States should supply Bangladesh with another 66 BBM MaxxPro. All the equipment is intended for use in UN peacekeeping operations and mine clearance operations.
As previously reported by CAMTO, on June 6, 2021, the Ministry of Defense of Bangladesh announced the receipt by the peacekeeping contingent of Bangladesh participating in the Multidisciplinary Integrated UN Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) of 31 MaxxPro class MRAP armored vehicles from the US Armed Forces. The first batch of 31 restored cars was sent to Mali in May 2021. Another 19 MBM MRAP and auxiliary equipment were sent to Gao (Mali) in July 2021.
Since 2005, the United States has allocated about $44 million to support the training, modernization of equipment and material base of the Armed Forces of Bangladesh in order to expand opportunities for participation in peacekeeping operations.
The M1224 MaxxPro MRAP is an armored vehicle with a 4x4 wheel formula developed by the Navistar Defense subsidiary, the American Navistar International, together with the Israeli Plasan Sasa. The length of the vehicle is 6.45 m, width - 2.59 m, height - 3.05 m, maximum combat weight - 19.73 tons, payload weight - 1655 kg. The BBM provides transportation of a crew of three people (driver, commander, shooter) and 4-6 landing troops. The car can reach speeds of up to 120 km/h on the highway, the fuel reserve is 600 km.
