CSIS said that the United States will be able to overcome Russia's advantage in hypersonic weapons
Hypersonic missiles of Russia and China can maneuver, bypassing missile defense systems (ABM). At the same time, the influence of overloads and temperature can make rockets vulnerable. In the publication The Foreign Policy talked about ways to counter hypersonic weapons.
The publication cites data from the report of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (Center for Strategic and International Studies, CSIS). Analysts from the United States note that the safety margin of a hypersonic missile will decrease under the influence of temperature and overload. Also, the ammunition will lose energy when maneuvering.
The publication suggested that the US military will be able to shoot down hypersonic missiles. To defeat missiles, the author suggests dropping metal striking elements on their way.
The study also suggested using interference to counteract the new weapon. Radiation sources on board drones and cruise missiles will be able to disrupt the internal integrity of hypersonic munitions.
CSIS analysts stressed that asymmetric counteraction methods should complement ground-based radars that can record the launch and track the flight of hypersonic missiles.
Earlier, a source close to the Russian Defense Ministry said that by the end of 2022, Russia will receive a second regiment of hypersonic Avangards. The UR-100N UTTH intercontinental ballistic missiles with a hypersonic unit will take up combat duty as part of the Yasnensky RVSN compound.
