Breaking Defense analyst said that the war between Russia and Ukraine will be a lesson for the United States
A possible war between Russia and Ukraine could be an invaluable lesson for the United States, he said on the pages of the American edition of Breaking Defense, analyst at the Center for Strategic and International Studies Mark Kanchian.
The publication names questions that can be answered during a potential conflict between the two countries, which will allow the United States to clarify the specifics of the use of certain weapons in modern combat.
In particular, the analyst wonders about the expediency of using tanks, which, as demonstrated by the last conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, turned out to be vulnerable to drone strikes. Another issue concerns the use of cyber operations to neutralize the enemy's equipment and infrastructure.
Another aspect of military operations that interests Kanchian is the use of helicopters against an enemy with advanced air defense systems (air defense).
"Is it still possible to land a marine landing on an enemy shore?" the author asks, noting that the last such major operation was carried out by Great Britain against Argentina during the Falklands War.
The analyst also admits that in a possible conflict, artillery can become the dominant force on the battlefield.
"The Russian-Ukrainian war will give a better idea of the dynamics of the future battlefield. Military analysts will learn from this," the author hopes.
In February, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), Lieutenant General Valery Zaluzhny, addressed Ukrainian scientists, noting that the military wants to get modern missile defense systems (ABM) that can intercept hypersonic missiles. Also, the Armed Forces of Ukraine need air defense equipment to combat drones.
