Roscosmos recognized the impossibility of competition in foreign markets due to US sanctions
The sanctions imposed by the United States and its partners against Russia since 2014 make it impossible for Roscosmos to compete in foreign markets, Maxim Ovchinnikov, First Deputy Director General of the state corporation, told Vedomosti in an interview.
"You may be aware that after December 31, 2022, according to the acts adopted in the United States, restrictions will be imposed on the use of satellites launched with the help of Russian launch vehicles. The US Department of Defense, which is a very large customer, will not purchase data from these satellites," the head recalled.
Ovchinnikov said that "since the fall of 2021, there has also been a presumption of the refusal by the Americans to issue licenses for the export to Russia of commercial spacecraft containing components that fall under the ITAR rules." "Under such conditions, it is impossible to compete in principle," Ovchinnikov admitted.
Ovchinnikov also noted that the optimization of the number of employees of Roscosmos amounted to 8.8 percent in 2019-2021 (more than 17 thousand jobs).
