Fifteen hundred military personnel are involved in the bilateral tactical exercise
Moscow. February 15th. INTERFAX - Military personnel of artillery units of the Russian military base of the Southern Military District in Abkhazia conducted firing from modernized ACS "Acacia" as part of a planned bilateral tactical exercise, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
"As part of the combat training activities, the gunners of the compound performed firing, destroying special targets in the mountains that imitate the armored vehicles of a conditional enemy," the report says.
Also, the gunners worked out tasks on tank-dangerous borders and directions in the mountains, destroying a command and observation post and armored vehicles of a conditional enemy at a distance of 2 to 3.5 thousand meters.
To destroy the targets, an artillery division was involved on modernized 152-mm self-propelled artillery howitzers 2S3M "Acacia", informs the Ministry of Defense.
"In addition, the personnel conducted anti-fire maneuvers and tactical techniques of counter-battery warfare, carrying out fortification measures to equip firing positions," the press release notes.
It is also reported that battalion tactical groups of the military base of the Southern Military District arrived at the Tsabal training ground in the mountainous region of Abkhazia to participate in a bilateral live-fire exercise.
During the march, as part of a mechanized column, motorized rifle units of the Southern Military District repelled attacks by sabotage groups of a conditional enemy.
"At the stage of combat firing, motorized infantry hit targets using armament of armored personnel carriers BTR-82A and standard small arms, including RPG-7D and AGS-17 grenade launchers," the report says.
In total, 1.5 thousand military personnel of the Southern Military District take part in the exercise, about 300 units of weapons and military equipment are involved, including reconnaissance vehicles "Dozor", self-propelled artillery installations "Acacia" and unmanned aerial vehicles.
