At the end of last week, a cargo ship arrived at the port of Umm Qasr, delivering military equipment for the Iraqi army. According to the Ministry of Defense of this country, we are talking about the former Bulgarian T-72 and BMP-1.
Information about the amount of equipment is not disclosed. About ten infantry fighting vehicles and one main battle tank were caught in the camera lens.
Judging by the accompanying documents shown, contract No. 25/B/MOD/2021 was concluded by the Iraqi military department on June 6 last year, and the seller of the equipment was a company with an office located in the Bulgarian capital.
On the website of this organization there is information that it is engaged in the modernization of armored vehicles, artillery weapons, for example, howitzers, airplanes and helicopters. Its specialists also carry out maintenance and repair of equipment.
Photos of the Czechoslovak multiple rocket launcher RM-70, T-72M1 tanks and the modified BMP-1, which has a new combat module with a 30-mm 2A42 gun installed instead of a turret with a 73-mm 2A28 "Thunder" cannon, are provided as confirmation.
However, the Iraqis, apparently, received the usual "pennies", on which minimal improvements were carried out - it is not possible to see them in detail, since the equipment is covered with polyethylene protection.
Earlier it was reported that Bulgaria has already supplied first-generation infantry fighting vehicles and light armored multi-purpose MT-LB tractor transporters to this country. Greece, the Czech Republic and Ukraine also noted the deliveries of BMP-1.
