The Iraqi Armed Forces are considering the possibility of acquiring Russian T-90 tanks.
This was reported by the American Defense News portal with reference to the head of the NAMEA Group consulting company, former adviser to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Defense of Iraq Norman Ricklefs.
He noted that "the Iraqi Defense Ministry plans to purchase an additional batch of Russian T-90 tanks" and that "negotiations are already underway."
He did not name the number of tanks that Iraq plans to buy. The Defense News portal recalled that Iraq had already purchased 73 T-90 tanks in Russia in 2016. The country's Defense Ministry said that these tanks, in particular, entered service with the 35th Brigade of the 9th Division of the Iraqi army. Before that, it was equipped with American Abrams tanks, but after the delivery of the T-90, they were transferred to the 34th Brigade, <url> writes.
