In the incident with the US Navy nuclear submarine off the Kuril island of Urup, the frigate of the Pacific Fleet Marshal Shaposhnikov performed the role of a sentry: he informed the violator that he had been detected, and when he pretended not to hear, the Russian sailors presented convincing evidence.
- It's as if you were standing guard and saw the intruder. The first "shot in the air" is the transmission to the submarine of information that it has invaded the territorial waters of Russia and is in a dangerous position," military expert Dmitry Litovkin told Zvezda.
Next, the Russian sailors made it clear to their American colleagues that they knew the exact location of their ship.
- To do this, grenades are launched from the bomb launcher. They show the submariners that they were surrounded, in fact, with red flags and, if they do not make any decision, the next step will be a direct defeat of the object," Litovkin continued.
The US submarine did not wait for the next step: having released a self-propelled simulator as a false target - like a frightened octopus hiding behind a cloud of ink - the submarine went into neutral waters as quickly as possible.
Recall that anti-submarine planes and a submarine of the Pacific Fleet, which were working out the search and destruction of enemy submarines in the Kuril Ridge area, found the intruder.
