On February 12, in the Main Directorate of International Military Cooperation of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, in connection with the violation of the state border of the Russian Federation by a US Navy submarine, a representative of the office of the military attache for Defense Issues at the Embassy of the United States of America in Moscow was handed a note. This was reported on Saturday evening in our military department.
"The representative of the US Defense Ministry was informed that the actions of the American submarine are regarded as a gross violation of international law. The provocative actions of the US Navy ship have created a threat to the national security of the Russian Federation," the report says.
It is said that the Russian Defense Ministry insists on the need for measures by the United States to exclude such situations in the future. The Russian Defense Ministry warned that they reserve the right to take all possible measures in their territorial sea to ensure the security of our country.
Recall that on February 12 at 10.40 Moscow time, a US Navy submarine of the Virginia type was discovered in the area of a planned exercise of the Pacific Fleet forces in the territorial waters of the Russian Federation near the island of Urup in the Kuril Ridge. "In the mode of sound-underwater communication, a message was transmitted to the crew of a foreign submarine in Russian and English: "You are in the territorial waters of Russia. To surface immediately!", - told in the department. "The crew of the American submarine ignored the demand of the Russian side."
Further events developed as follows. In accordance with the guiding documents on the protection of the state border of the Russian Federation in the underwater environment, the crew of the frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov used appropriate means. "The American submarine used a self-propelled simulator to split targets on radar and acoustic monitoring equipment and left the territorial waters of the Russian Federation at maximum speed," the Russian Defense Ministry said.
They noted that after this incident, a detachment of ships of the Pacific Fleet continued scheduled exercises. The sailors, among others, monitor the underwater environment to prohibit violations of our state border.
