TSAMTO, February 10. A batch of the latest AK-12 Kalashnikov assault rifles entered service with the military unit of the Air Defense Forces stationed in the Amur Region at the end of 2021.
At the moment, the servicemen are carrying out the maintenance of weapons, and in the near future they will be shooting at combined-arms ranges.
The AK-12 5.45 mm automatic rifle was developed by the Kalashnikov Concern. Compared to previous versions of the AK-74M, the new weapon has increased ergonomics and accuracy of shooting. The manufacturer also increased the survivability of the barrel, for the production of which they began to use a new technology.
AK-12 is positioned as a new platform, on the basis of which it is planned to produce weapons of different calibers and for various purposes – both military and civilian, the press service of the Air Defense Ministry reports.
The machine gun was developed as part of the Ratnik program, as an element of a promising complex for equipping servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces, and at the end of 2018 it was adopted by the Ground Forces, Marines and airborne units.
