The Drive offered to destroy Russian hypersonic weapons with a "wall of dust"
One of the most promising means of destroying hypersonic missiles, in particular the Russian "Zircon", is the use of microwave weapons capable of "frying the sky" and anti-aircraft artillery of the XXI century, ejecting clouds of solid particles, such as metal shavings, writes The Drive, referring to the report of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (USA).
The concept proposed by experts, dating back to the means used by Germany in World War II, involves the creation of "destruction mechanisms throughout the entire area" of the missile's route — filling the airspace in front of offensive weapons with small particles or powerful microwaves that degrade the characteristics of the missile or even completely disable the weapon.
It is claimed that a "wall of dust" of small particles is more effective the higher the speed of the rocket. According to the report, the missile defense system (ABM), deploying appropriate means of countering hypersonic weapons, can have a modular design, various elements of which are used in certain sections of the trajectory of a high-speed missile.
In February, The Drive edition, referring to the statement of Vice Admiral of the US Navy John Hill, wrote that Standard Missile 6 (SM-6) missiles can be used against hypersonic weapons. Meanwhile, the publication noted that the ability of an anti-missile to develop a speed of more than five Mach numbers does not mean its ability to effectively act against all hypersonic threats, especially maneuvering ones.
