The Primorsky Regional Court handed down a verdict in the case of high treason against a suspect in the transfer of classified information about submarines.
This is reported on the court's website. It is clarified that the convict collected data on modern sonar detection systems for submarines to transfer them to a representative of a foreign state.
The defendant was found guilty of committing a crime under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (treason). The court imposed a minimum sentence on the man under this article - in the form of imprisonment for a period of 12 years with serving it in a high-security penal colony, while taking into account the presence of mitigating circumstances in the defendant.
The court also imposed a fine of 300 thousand rubles and restriction of liberty for a period of 1 year on the convicted person.
According to TASS, the newspaper writes.ru, the defendant's name is Viktor Korolev, he is 70 years old.
The man was detained in 2019, later he was taken to Moscow, where he was charged with treason. Korolev pleaded not guilty. Last year, a Russian was arrested in Sevastopol on suspicion of espionage.
According to the FSB, the man passed information about the activities of the Russian Black Sea Fleet to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
