NASA has been preparing to save on the ISS since 2028
NASA is preparing to save money on the International Space Station (ISS), follows from the report of the American Space Agency, which drew the attention of SpaceNews.
It is noted that every year until 2027, inclusive, NASA plans to spend 3.1 billion dollars on the ISS, of which 1.3 billion go to the operation of the station and conducting research on it, and 1.8 billion - for crew and cargo transportation.
In 2028, due to preparations for the flooding of the ISS (planned for 2031), the costs of the station will temporarily increase, after which they will begin to decrease against the background of the acquisition of services of commercial operators of near-Earth stations.
By 2033, it is planned to spend about one billion dollars annually on commercial services purchased under the Commercial LEO Destinations (CLD) program. The total cost savings, compared to the previous costs for the ISS, will amount to $ 1.5 billion per year.
The corresponding finances are planned to be spent, in particular, on the Artemis lunar program.
In February, Ars Technica, referring to NASA, wrote that the first launch of the superheavy Space Launch System (SLS) rocket with the Orion spacecraft, which is supposed to fly around the Moon and then return to Earth, is postponed from February 15 to mid-March.
