The Taganrog City Court of the Rostov region will consider the claim of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in the amount of more than 2.7 million rubles to the accused of stealing equipment from a flying command post based on Il-86, a representative of the court told RIA Novosti.
According to the investigation, in December 2020, a resident of Taganrog, Zhora Khachunts, opened the cargo hatch and stole equipment from an airplane that was being repaired at the Beriev TANTK airfield. Earlier it was reported that the damage was estimated at more than 2.5 million rubles. The criminal case of theft was transferred to the court at the end of last year.
"At the stage of the preliminary investigation, a civil claim for the amount of 2,712,891 rubles was filed from the Ministry of Defense against Khachunts. It will be considered in the framework of a criminal case," the representative of the court said.
According to him, a judicial investigation is underway in the criminal case, witnesses are being interrogated.
IL-80 (IL-86VzPU) is a command post created on the basis of the IL-86 liner. It is designed to control troops in a nuclear war, so such aircraft in the West were called the "Doomsday" aircraft.
How Khachunts got into the territory of the enterprise is not reported.
