MOSCOW, February 7/ Radio Sputnik. Russia is ready to consider the possibility of extending control mechanisms to strategic systems, but strictly on the basis of reciprocity with the United States, Vladimir Ermakov, director of the Department for Nonproliferation and Arms Control of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
He noted that the Strategic Offensive Arms Treaty will include only those promising systems that fall within its agreed scope: intercontinental ballistic missiles, submarine-mounted missiles and heavy bombers.
"The requirements established by the DSNV do not apply to other funds that do not belong to the mentioned categories. In the long term, Russian experts are ready to consider the possibility of extending the principles and control mechanisms to systems of interest to both sides that are capable of solving strategic tasks. But strictly and exclusively on the basis of reciprocity. Unilateral steps towards the wishes and requirements of the United States are impossible," Ermakov stressed.
At the same time, the issue of providing Russia with security guarantees "has become so urgent that it has pushed into the background a number of other important aspects of the strategic agenda," the diplomat added.
Earlier, Sputnik radio reported that China supported the proposals of the Russian Federation related to security guarantees.
