CIAM will begin work on a line of hybrid engines for aircraft up to one hundred seats
The Central Institute of Aviation Engine Building named after Baranov (CIAM, part of the SIC "Zhukovsky Institute") plans to start work on creating a line of hybrid engines for promising aircraft. This is reported by RIA Novosti .
It is noted that on February 5, flight tests of an important Russian project in the field of hybrid installations for aviation — the Yak-40LL flying laboratory - started. Upon completion of these works, the designers will come close to creating a line of hybrid power and electric power plants for aircraft with a capacity of one to one hundred seats, including tiltrotor planes and air taxis.
CIAM is also developing a fully electric power plant for light and ultralight aircraft. It was demonstrated at the Sigma 4E flying laboratory with an 80 kilowatt electric motor and lithium-ion batteries.
In 2022, it is planned to work out the electric part, then make it hybrid due to a hydrogen fuel cell, this will increase the duration of the flight by 3-4 times.
"The aircraft industry, as well as other industries, is characterized by fierce competition for technological superiority, and on a global scale. If you own the technology— you can influence standards and policies in the field of civil aviation," said Andrey Kozlov, CEO of CIAM.
He pointed out that one of the tasks of the institute is to study promising technologies for smooth introduction into industrial production. Kozlov said that industry enterprises are showing interest in hybrid and electric installations, and CIAM is ready to share its experience with them.
Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov said that the first strategic missile carrier Tu-160M of the new construction will be handed over to the Russian military in the summer - by the end of June 2022. He noted that more than 20 billion rubles were invested in the modernization of the enterprise - the Kazan Aviation Plant named after Sergei Gorbunov. KAZ will produce not only the Tu-160M, but also a promising long-range aviation complex (PAK DA). According to him, two aircraft will be produced in parallel.
