The Pentagon recognized the low efficiency of promising ISV machines
The American Army Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV) SUVs were recognized as ineffective in combat. The shortcomings of the new machines were named in the report of the Department of operational testing and evaluation DOT & E (Director of Operational Test and Evaluation) of the US Department of Defense, which was published on Thursday. This is reported by Breaking Defense.
In the report, the agency noted that the ISV can act as a transporter in moderate conditions. At the same time, the machine provides insufficient protection for the crew. ISV is also deprived of the necessary means of communication.
DOT&E stressed that during the tests in the summer, the company on the ISV could not realize the advantage of the surprise of a light vehicle and suffered losses in most missions. The design of the machine prevented the fighters from preparing weapons for firing. Also, the ISV cannot transport supplies that are necessary to perform the tasks of the department.
The publication notes that the report included a plan to improve the machine, which will deprive the ISV of the identified shortcomings.
Infantry Squad Vehicle is designed for the rapid transfer of units. In 2020, GM Defense received a contract to supply vehicles to the Pentagon. The ISV is based on the platform of the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 civilian pickup truck. The car received a reinforced suspension and an engine with a capacity of 186 horsepower.
In January, the Military Industrial Company announced the completion of testing of the MIC-Ural vehicle.
