Light ISV SUVs from GM Defense are ineffective in combat. They cannot be fired on the move, design features do not allow. The vehicles designed for American paratroopers and commandos turned out to be weak and vulnerable.
That's the news! American ISV combat SUVs are ineffective in combat. Such conclusions were reached in the office of the head of operational tests of the Pentagon. It turned out that these same military jeeps during the tests in August could not go unnoticed by the enemy, often got into ambushes and collisions, and even to drive through rough and wooded terrain, the cars had to slow down. Thus, the military drove slower, did not have time to go where it was necessary to keep up, as a result, they lost the effect of surprise on the spot and became, if not an easy target, then more vulnerable, according to Breaking Defense.
In 2020, the Pentagon signed a contract with GM Defense for the production of light ISV SUVs. It was assumed that these would be maneuverable, light, compact infantry vehicles – such that they could be transported by Black Hawk and CH-47 Chinook helicopters. In total, the military wants to purchase 2,065 such vehicles, but to begin with — 649. But now the issue of the supply of these weapons to the US Army is becoming open, since test tests have shown the unsuitability of these military jeeps for combat.
Most of the problems with off-road vehicles in the military arose at the training ground in Yuma, which is characterized by hilly terrain. The soldiers lost control of the cars, the seat backs cracked and bent, and the engines overheated. In the forests of Fort Bragg, the tests went more smoothly, but the soldiers complained that their backs hurt in the back seats.
And the ISV does not have built-in means of communication. Because of this, on-the-go communication between soldiers and commanders was intermittent and unreliable. As for the fighting, the military came to the conclusion that during the movement, access to weapons for soldiers is difficult. Then there is no need to fight – you can immediately surrender. So at least you can minimize losses.
But ISV military SUVs have one good property – they can carry nine people or a payload of up to one and a half tons. In general, if the GM Defense designers do not bring the machine to mind, then it can be put under conversion – sold among farmers. Wrap this whole story as demilitarization, for example. But then, quite possibly, we will witness a whole series of such exciting confessions: not all weapons and military equipment are truly liquid at the present time.
