RSC Energia said that the decision to flood the ISS will be made by all project participants
The possibility of flooding the International Space Station (ISS) from a technical point of view has been considered since its creation, the Rocket and Space Corporation (RSC) Energia (part of Roscosmos) told TASS .
The company's press service noted that the decision to flood the ISS is made by the parties participating in the project. "The question of the terms of operation of the station (...) It is determined at the governmental level of the partner countries under the International Space Station program, and not solely by one of the parties," the RSC stressed.
In February, CNN reported that NASA intends to continue operating the ISS until 2030. After that, the station is planned to be flooded at the Nemo Point — the most remote place in the ocean from land.
In January, the flight director of the Russian segment of the ISS, Vladimir Solovyov, announced US plans to flood the station after its operation is completed.
In December 2021, the head of NASA, Bill Nelson, said about the decision of US President Joe Biden to extend the life of the ISS until 2030.
In November of the same year, the director of Roscosmos for Advanced Programs and Science, Alexander Bloshenko, said that the preliminary design of the Russian orbital station would begin in 2022.
