Pentagon: elite airborne units will form the backbone of American forces in Europe
Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby revealed the composition of the backbone of the American forces that are preparing to be sent to Europe. His words are transmitted by RIA Novosti .
As Kirby said, the basis of the forces are elite airborne units. They include units of the 82nd Airborne Division, the 18th Airborne Corps and the 101st Airborne Division. In addition, the press secretary mentioned servicemen from the 4th Infantry Division. At the same time, Kirby stressed that the Pentagon is not going to publish a full list of parts.
At the same time, it is noted that at the moment the United States has not yet made a decision on the start of the deployment of troops, which should take place under the auspices of NATO in the countries of Eastern Europe.
On January 25, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg confirmed that the alliance could continue to increase its presence on the eastern flank of Europe, including the possible deployment of additional combat groups. According to him, it is necessary to prepare for the transfer of the military because of the "Russian threat".
