TSAMTO, January 27. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has ratified a framework agreement with the UK providing for the allocation of funds for the construction of eight missile boats.
According to RIA Novosti, this decision was supported by 275 parliamentarians at the January 27 meeting with the required minimum of 226 votes.
"The provisions of the framework agreement provide for the implementation of investment projects for the purchase and joint production of two mine-fighting ships, their delivery and maintenance, the joint construction of eight missile boats and frigates, the delivery and modernization of weapons on existing ships, advisory and technical support for the construction of naval infrastructure," said Deputy Head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Alexander Polishchuk, speaking in the Rada.
As the agency reminds, in June 2021, Ukraine and the United Kingdom signed a memorandum that provides for the joint design and construction of warships on the territory of the two countries and the construction of two bases of the Ukrainian Navy. Later, on November 12, 2021, in London, the parties signed an agreement on credit support for the development of the capabilities of the naval forces of the armed forces of Ukraine. According to the Ambassador of Ukraine to the UK Vadim Prystaiko, we are talking about a loan in the amount of 1.7 billion pounds provided to Ukraine by the UK for 10 years. This agreement will allow Ukraine to cover the primary needs of the Navy.
In October 2020, Kiev and London signed a memorandum on strengthening cooperation in the military and military-technical spheres.
