MOSCOW, January 24 - RIA Novosti. Russian President Vladimir Putin, as commander-in-chief, is taking measures to ensure Russia's security amid rising tensions, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday.
"The general tension is yes. Unfortunately, we live in such an aggressive environment. Yes, unfortunately, we all read reports together that NATO is making such a decision. Unfortunately, together with you we all see reprints and references to primarily Anglo-Saxon mass media, we read statements by representatives of NATO countries and the North Atlantic Alliance that are absolutely unfriendly to us. This is the reality in which we exist. The head of our state, as commander-in-chief and as a person who determines the foreign policy of our country, he takes the necessary measures to ensure that our security is provided at the proper level, so that our interests are secured," Peskov said.
He recalled that it was Russia that initiated consultations and negotiations on security.
"And we expect that this week we will receive written responses to our proposal, which is designed just to help avoid such tense situations in the future," Peskov said.
