Washington. January 24. INTERFAX - The United States can send up to 5,000 military personnel, ships and planes to the countries of Eastern Europe and the Baltic States, The New York Times reports, citing knowledgeable sources in the US administration.
According to the interlocutors of the publication, US President Joe Biden is considering the possibility of deploying several thousand American troops, as well as warships and aircraft, in the Baltic States and Eastern European countries.
As the source of the newspaper clarified, on Saturday at a meeting at Camp David (the residence of the US president in Maryland), senior Pentagon officials presented Biden with several options that would allow moving US military assets much closer to the border with Russia. Options include sending from 1 thousand to 5 thousand troops to Eastern European countries with the possibility of increasing this number by 10 times if "the situation worsens."
