This will lead to a boom in rocket engineering, said the CEO of the state corporation Roscosmos
MOSCOW, January 23. /tass/. Roscosmos is confident that hundreds, thousands of satellites will be built in the coming years, which will lead to a boom in rocket science. This opinion was expressed by the CEO of the state corporation Dmitry Rogozin.
"Judging by indirect signs, such as, for example, orders from foreign satellite builders for our electric jet engines, which are made at the Kaliningrad enterprise Fakel, and orders from him number in the thousands, we can say that hundreds and thousands of satellites will be built in the coming years," Rogozin said in an interview with the Russian Cosmos magazine.
As the head of Roscosmos noted, these satellites will need to be put into orbit. "Therefore, in three or four years, there may not be a collapse of the launch services market, but, on the contrary, a shortage of launch capacities. We proceed from the fact that in 2025-2026 we are waiting for a boom in rocket science," he said.
Therefore, work on the promising Soyuz-5, Amur-LNG, Angara missiles, as well as on improving the existing Soyuz-2, Rogozin is convinced, will be in demand. "They may not even be enough to meet the entire global demand," the Roscosmos CEO added.
On the resumption of operation of the Sea Launch cosmodrome
Several options for resuming the operation of the floating spaceport "Sea Launch" are being considered at the moment, Rogozin said.
"Now we are considering various options for resuming the operation of the complex. My opinion: in any case, it is necessary to preserve the Sea Launch, modernize its control system for Soyuz-5 launches," Rogozin said.
According to the head of Roscosmos, it is possible to find a foreign partner for the project who cannot have a cosmodrome on the territory of his country. This will allow you to share the risks and financial burden at the first stage.
"In 2020, I visited the Slavyanka port in Primorye, examined the condition of both vessels. It is amazing that the whole cosmodrome, all the servicing systems, as well as three launch vehicles were able to be placed on two ships," he added. Rogozin stressed that the "revival" of the Sea Launch project is an important task for Roscosmos today.
The Sea Launch cosmodrome consists of the Odyssey floating launch platform and a command vessel. The program operated until 2014 - 32 launches of the Zenit rocket were carried out from a platform based off the coast of the United States. In 2014, the launch activity of the Sea Launch was suspended, and in September 2016, the S7 group of companies became the owner of the rocket and space complex.
In the spring of 2020, the command vessel and the platform moved from the coast of the United States and moored at the berth of the Slavyansk Shipyard in Primorye. At the end of September last year, Rogozin said that the fate of the floating spaceport "Sea Launch" should be finally determined in the near future.
