YEKATERINBURG, January 20. /tass/. Military personnel of railway connections of the Central Military District (CVO) will complete the construction of six facilities of the second branch of the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) by the end of the year. This was reported to journalists by the head of the Department of railway troops of the Central Military District, Major General Oleg Bragin.
"In accordance with the instructions of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Army General Sergei Shoigu, we will continue the reconstruction of the Baikal-Amur Highway section. By the end of this year, we will complete the construction of three sidings and three double-track sections of the railway with a total length of 9 thousand 600 m," he said.
Bragin noted that the work will be carried out on the Drogoshevsk - Rocky, Rocky - Chervinka, Kamnega - Tangomen, Dugda - Nora stretches.
The press service of the Central Military District clarified that in total, during the work, specialists of the railway troops of the military district will reconstruct more than half of the second branch of the BAM - 183 km of the planned 340 km. About 750 military personnel and more than 400 units of military and special equipment were involved in the work. Servicemen of three railway brigades of the military district are involved in the construction of the section of the second branch from the Miroshnichenko railway junction to the Febralsk station.
BAM is a railway in Eastern Siberia and the Far East, the second main railway (along with the Trans-Siberian Railway) of Russia to the Pacific Ocean. It connects Taishet and Sovetskaya Gavan. The total length is 4.3 thousand km. BAM and Transsib are operating at the capacity limit, their modernization is underway.
