MOSCOW, January 20. /tass/. Cosmonauts of the 2018 set Konstantin Borisov, Alexander Gorbunov, Alexander Grebenkin, Alexey Zubritsky, Sergey Mikaev and Oleg Platonov can make the first flights into orbit in 2023-2024. This is stated in the message of Roscosmos, distributed on Thursday.
"In addition, the crews of the Soyuz MS spacecraft with launches in 2023-2024 for the first time included cosmonauts of the 2018 set: Konstantin Borisov, Alexander Gorbunov, Alexander Grebenkin, Alexey Zubritsky, Sergey Mikaev and Oleg Platonov," the message says.
The 17th cosmonaut recruitment was open, applications were accepted from citizens of the Russian Federation no older than 35 years old with higher education in engineering, scientific or flight specialties with work experience. There were 420 applicants in total. On August 10, 2018, the results of the 17th selection were announced.
Eight candidates for cosmonauts underwent general space training, following which they passed state exams on November 24-25. Seven of the eight applicants qualified as test cosmonauts: Konstantin Borisov, Alexander Gorbunov, Alexander Grebenkin, Alexey Zubritsky, Sergey Mikaev, Kirill Peskov and Oleg Platonov.
