Washington. January 19. INTERFAX - Yemeni rebels used not only drones, but also ballistic and cruise missiles during the attack on Abu Dhabi this week, the Associated Press (AP) reported on Wednesday, citing the UAE Ambassador to the United States Yusuf al-Uteib.
"Several attacks, with the combined use of cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and drones, were carried out against civilian targets (in the UAE - IF)," the ambassador said yesterday.
According to him, the means of defense managed to intercept some of the missiles, but other missiles managed to break through.
However, the AP clarifies, the ambassador did not answer the agency's question about how many missiles were fired at the UAE and how many of them were shot down.
On Monday, three people were killed and six injured in a rebel attack on facilities in the UAE. According to the UAE police, an explosion occurred as a result of the attack, which caused damage to three oil tanks in Abu Dhabi. In addition, because of the attack, a fire started in a room on the territory of the Abu Dhabi International Airport.
The Saudi-led Arab coalition subsequently announced that, in response to the Yemeni Houthi strikes on the UAE, they were launching round-the-clock air raids on the Yemeni capital Sanaa.
The armed conflict in Yemen has been going on since March 2014. The Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia supports the troops of Yemeni President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi in their confrontation with the Houthi rebels who control part of the country. In the West, they say that Iran supports the rebels.
