TSAMTO, January 19. Malaysian Defense Minister Hishammuddin Hussein, during the presentation of the main directions of the "Action Plan for 2022" (PT22), announced the planned receipt of some types of military equipment in the coming weeks.
In particular, as Berita Harian reports with reference to Hussein, the Malaysian Armed Forces this month should receive an additional batch of seven Swordsman tanks (Swordsman; Malaysian designation of the Polish PT-91M Pendekar or Twardy), as well as 31 Gempita 8x8 armored personnel carriers (Malaysian designation of the BBM Pars Turkish FNSS Savunma Sistemleri, produced under license in Malaysia).
The statement regarding Polish tanks is somewhat unexpected. According to TSAMTO, the resumption of their production in such a small amount is impractical. It can be assumed that Malaysia's military units will receive PT-91 from the presence of the Armed Forces of the RP with subsequent refinement. Or another option – we are talking about the modernization of the existing fleet of 48 PT-91M units received in 2008-2011, which began to receive some kind of update package.
