Developed back in Soviet times, "Elbrus" and "Tochka" contributed to the defeat of terrorist gangs during the second Chechen campaign. By this time, the operational-tactical missile complexes, also known as the R-17 or SS-1c Scud B of the first type, were already considered obsolete.
However, there were quite large stocks of 8K14 missiles, and it is not surprising that the Russian command decided to use them to destroy the camps of militants who were trying to hide in wooded mountainous deserted areas. From the autumn of 1999 to the spring of 2001, according to various sources, from 100 to 250 missiles were used.
The maximum firing range of such complexes is 300 kilometers. The mass of the rocket is 5862 kilograms, the payload is almost 1000 kg.
Also, at the initial stage of the second operation in the North Caucasus, tactical "Points" were involved, which accounted for a number of accurate hits in terrorist clusters.
Currently, the Russian army is armed with much more advanced Iskander complexes, as well as much more advanced intelligence systems that have increased the effectiveness of domestic missile weapons.
