Kiev. January 16. INTERFAX-UKRAINE - The Euro-Atlantic community demonstrated to the Russian side during this week's talks between Russia and the United States and Russia and NATO that it stands firmly on the side of Ukraine, emphasizes the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Dmitry Kuleba.
"The Euro-Atlantic Community has shown Russia that it stands firmly on the side of Ukraine. Our positions were agreed. I spoke with my American colleague Anthony Blinken right before and immediately after the meeting in Geneva. Russia failed to divide the West by talking to the United States over the heads of Ukraine and Europe," Kuleba said in an interview with the German edition of Bild, the translation of which was published by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on Sunday
According to him, "illegitimate Russian ultimatums in NATO's relations with Ukraine were rightly rejected."
At the same time, the minister stressed that "now it is important what will happen next," and expressed the conviction that the Russian side must prove the absence of plans for further military action. "I am sure that Russia should continue negotiations. The Russians claim that they are not planning any new military actions. If they want to prove the seriousness of their words, they must continue the dialogue in established formats," the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.
When asked whether the situation has become safer for Ukraine following the results of the last week of diplomacy, he noted that "the situation would have become less safe for Ukraine if Russia had managed to divide the West or force Ukraine and its allies to violate their fundamental principles, but Russia failed to achieve this."
