The Swedish command has sent military personnel to patrol the city of Visby on the strategically important island of Gotland located in the Baltic Sea, European media reported on Friday evening.
The Swedish side, at the same time, explains that it took such a step taking into account "Russian activity".
The reports note that the reinforcements are insignificant: we are talking about several dozen military and armored vehicles.
A day earlier, the Swedish army warned that it would send the military "to numerous places" in light of "increased Russian activity in the Baltic Sea," Interfax notes.
The media note that in 2017, Sweden again made it mandatory for citizens to serve in the army. In 2018, the military command again deployed a military contingent on Gotland after a break.
