The concept of the DDG(X) combat destroyer was presented in the USA. It will be a new generation ship armed with hypersonic missiles and lasers. It is assumed that they will be ten times more powerful than current missiles and laser installations.
This is reported by USNI News. The publication adds that the new destroyer will be the largest in the last two decades. And it is designed to control a new generation of directed energy weapons.
It is also known about some technological innovations. So, instead of a conventional gas turbine installation, a universal system will be installed, as on Zumwalt-class destroyers. It will provide energy for lasers that can hit enemy guided missiles. The ship is designed for operations, including in the Arctic region.
The ship will have a new hull. But so far, the designers do not link the project to a specific design. It is known that the bow will be swept and angular. It is quite possible that the new ship will be similar to the stealth destroyer Zumwalt.
As the experts of the publication added, currently the developers, together with the defense industry, are working on finalizing the basic design, which will take into account all operational requirements.
The preliminary cost of the project is at least one billion dollars. This is just the case, all other technological solutions will have their own additional price.
