Washington. January 14th. INTERFAX - Iran should take into account that the time frame for reaching an agreement to return to compliance with the provisions of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program is limited, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on NPR radio.
"We still believe that if we can return to the JCPOA in the coming weeks - not months, but weeks - then this would be the best solution for our security and the security of our allies and partners in the region. But we have very, very little time. The runway is very short," the diplomat said.
According to him, this is due to the fact that "Iran is getting closer and closer to the moment when it will be able to produce a sufficient amount of fissile material for nuclear weapons in a very, very short time," because "they are doing something new as a result of having abandoned restrictions in accordance with the agreement."
"So we have, I think, a few weeks left to see if we can return to mutual compliance (...). But if we can't, we will consider other steps, other options," the US Secretary of State warned.
On the eve of the representative of the US State Department, Ned Price, said that, according to the American authorities, some progress was made at the Vienna negotiations on the JCPOA, but this is not enough.
