Khrunichev Center: we will produce 4 Proton-M rockets, their production will be completed in 2022
The Khrunichev Center has only four Proton-M heavy launch vehicles left to manufacture, the production of missiles will be completed in 2022. This is reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the company.
"Currently, ten Proton-M launch vehicles have been manufactured and are in storage at the Moscow production site of the Khrunichev Center and the Baikonur Cosmodrome. There are four missiles in the process of manufacturing, the planned completion date is 2022," the center noted.
On December 13, 2021, Russia launched a Proton-M carrier rocket with two telecommunications satellites. The rocket was launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome.
On July 21, a heavy Proton-M rocket with the Nauka module was launched from Baikonur to the International Space Station (ISS). This launch was the 111th for this carrier. Nauka turned out to be the heaviest payload launched by Proton-M into space. The previous time Russia launched a module for the ISS on May 14, 2011 (small research "Dawn").
In 2018, Roscosmos CEO Dmitry Rogozin announced that the operation of Proton-M would be completed in 2025. All subsequent launches of heavy vehicles will be carried out at the Angara, since it is more environmentally friendly.
