Tests of the missile from the submarine carrier should continue in 2024
MOSCOW, January 13. /tass/. Based on the results of state tests, the State Commission recommended that the Zircon hypersonic cruise missile be adopted by surface ships of the Russian Navy. This was reported to TASS by a source close to the military department.
"The State Commission, following the results of state tests of the Zircon hypersonic missile from a surface carrier, recommended that it be adopted by surface ships of the Russian Navy," he said.
According to the agency's interlocutor, tests of the Zircon from an underwater carrier after two successful launches carried out in the fall of 2021 should continue in 2024.
The Reutov NPO of Mechanical Engineering (part of the Tactical Missile Armament Corporation), where the Zircons were developed and manufactured, did not comment on this information to TASS.
Earlier, NPO Mashinostroeniya started fulfilling a contract for the serial production of these missiles for the Russian Navy. On August 24, 2021, at the Army-2021 military-technical forum, a contract was signed for the supply of Zircons to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
On December 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the multiple launch of the Zircon. The tests, he said, were "successful, flawless."
