Nine scientific instruments will be installed on board Luna-25, which will allow Russian scientists to study in detail the properties of the oldest rocks of the Moon for the first time
MOSCOW, January 10 /TASS/. The launch of the Luna-25 research spacecraft and its planned landing at the South Pole of the Moon will be the main Russian scientific event in 2022, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Alexander Sergeev told TASS.
"The launch of the Luna-25 spacecraft is the main Russian scientific event of 2022 and our return to the Earth's natural satellite since the 1970s. The most convenient location for the flight will be in the summer of 2022. I am sure that this will happen, and I am sure that we will fly to the Moon, gently and successfully land near the South Pole, which will be the world's first landing on this territory. According to our estimates, there is the most favorable area for finding water. Water is fundamentally important for the development of the Moon, because there will not be a big issue with energy in future lunar settlements, but oxygen needs to be obtained," he said.
Luna-25 is a research space lander, which is scheduled to be launched into space in July 2022 from the Vostochny Cosmodrome. It is planned that the device will descend to the surface of the Moon in the vicinity of its south pole, on the territory of the crater Boguslavsky. Nine scientific instruments will be installed on board Luna-25, which will allow Russian scientists to study in detail the properties of the oldest rocks of the Moon for the first time.
