According to Roscosmos, the first launch of the Glonass-K2 satellite is planned to be carried out in 2022
MOSCOW, January 10. /tass/. More than 10 Glonass satellites are in production by Academician M. F. Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems JSC (ISS, part of Roscosmos), including four of the latest generation. This is stated in the message of Roscosmos, distributed on Monday.
"Currently, eight Glonass-K spacecraft and four newest Glonass-K2 satellites are in production at ISS," the report says.
According to the state corporation, the first launch of the Glonass-K2 satellite is planned to be carried out in 2022. According to the new contract, Roscosmos noted, ISS will have to create 11 such devices. They should increase the accuracy of navigation definitions and update the grouping of the GLONASS system.
Another contract concluded with Roscosmos implies the development of a draft design of a high-orbit space complex of the system, which will include six satellites. "Due to the high-orbit complex, it is planned to provide increased navigation accuracy in difficult conditions of high latitudes, primarily in the Arctic region," the state corporation explained.
Roscosmos stressed that it is planned to increase the navigation grouping to 30 satellites.
In October 2020, the head of the department of the GLONASS Control Center, Lieutenant Colonel Rustam Yakhin, told reporters that the grouping of navigation satellites could be expanded to 30 devices.
