MOSCOW, January 10. /tass/. The S-500 Prometheus anti-aircraft missile systems (SAMS) will be delivered to the southern parts of the Russian army by 2025. This was announced by the commander of the 4th Army of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Southern Military District, Lieutenant General Nikolai Gostev, in an interview with the newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda, published on Monday.
"Until 2025, deliveries of Su-34, Su-30SM, Su-35S, Ka-52, Mi-8AMTSh-VN helicopters, S-500 Prometheus anti-aircraft missile systems are planned for the association," Gostev said.
As a TASS source reported earlier, the new S-550 air defense system based on the S-500 Prometheus air defense system will together with it provide anti-missile and anti-space defense of Russia's strategic facilities. "The S-550 air defense system will not replace the S-500, because it is not more perfect than its predecessor. In fact, it is a somewhat lightweight version of it. The new system will face slightly different combat tasks than the Prometheus. And the forceful methods of influencing threatening objects will also be different," he said.

Gostev added that the army units in Crimea are 100% provided with modern weapons.
"I would like to emphasize that the units and formations of the 4th Army of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Southern Military District stationed on the Crimean Peninsula are one hundred percent provided with modern weapons," he said.
According to the Lieutenant General, the equipment of the 4th Army allows you to perform the tasks. "Undoubtedly, [equipment] is sufficient [to perform tasks]. To date, the indicator of new and modernized samples of the VVST of the VKS nomenclature of the 4th Army of the Air Force and Air Defense is 88%. The availability of modern aviation equipment has reached 81%. Compared to last year, the indicator increased by 3.5%. We are provided with radio-electronic equipment by 82%, which is 7% higher than last year. S-500 supplies

The S-500 Prometheus air defense system manufactured by the Almaz-Antey Concern of East Kazakhstan Region is designed to defeat all available and promising means of an air and space attack by a likely enemy in the entire range of heights and speeds. Training of specialists to work on it has been conducted since 2017. The S-500 will replace the S-400 Triumph air defense system.
