London. January 8th. INTERFAX - Commander-in-Chief of the British Armed Forces Tony Radakin announced a significant increase in the activity of Russian submarines.
"The activity of Russian submarines has increased phenomenally over the past 20 years," he said in an interview with The Times, noting that this includes "possible risks to global information systems using submarine cables around the world."
"Information between countries is transmitted for the most part in this way (under water - IF). Russia has expanded its capabilities to create a threat to these underwater cables and exploit the vulnerabilities of these underwater cables," Radakin said. At the same time, answering the question whether damage to these cables can be considered as an act of war, he replied: "Yes, it's possible."
