Moscow. January 8th. INTERFAX - Anti-aircraft gunners of the Eastern Military District conducted a training session with S-300V4 anti-aircraft missile systems on the Kuril Islands, the press service of the district reported on Saturday.
"In the Eastern Military District, as part of the new training period with the calculations of the S-300V4 air defense systems stationed on the Kuril Islands, a training was conducted to detect, classify and destroy air targets," the press service reported.
According to her, the calculations worked out the search, identification and tracking of air targets that simulated an "enemy" air raid, and then conducted electronic launches.
As Interfax reported, in recent years Russia has significantly increased its military grouping on the Kuril Islands.
In particular, in April 2019, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced the introduction of an air defense alert zone on the Kuril island of Kunashir. On December 1, 2020, the Air Defense Ministry announced that the military had deployed the S-300V4 air defense system on the Kuril Islands (Almaz-Antey concern of East Kazakhstan Region). The newspaper of the Pacific Fleet "Combat Watch" in the fall of 2016 reported that Russia had deployed new coastal missile systems "Bal" and "Bastion" on Iturup and Kunashir.
