MOSCOW, January 7/ Sputnik Radio. The Armenian Defense Ministry confirmed the departure of one hundred peacekeepers to Kazakhstan through the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
It is noted that the military personnel from the Transcaucasian Republic will perform only the functions of protecting the infrastructure of strategic importance.
Earlier, the first deputy head of the Presidential administration of Kazakhstan, Dauren Abayev, stressed that the CSTO peacekeeping mission, which arrived in the country on a temporary basis, would not participate in the elimination of militants.
The need to deploy collective peacekeeping forces in Kazakhstan for a limited time period arose after the authorities of the republic asked for help from other CSTO members to neutralize the "terrorist threat".
The deterioration of the security situation in Kazakhstan occurred at the beginning of the year, when rallies against the increase in prices for liquefied gas turned into armed clashes with the police and were accompanied by attempts to seize authorities throughout Kazakhstan.
Earlier, Sputnik radio reported on the participation of terrorists who arrived from abroad in the riots in Kazakhstan.
